One Nation Under God
Album: Doulos

Song description: In the spring of 2002 the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the phrase “…one nation, under God…” should be struck from the pledge of allegience to the flag of the United States of America. There were many in the evangelical community within the U.S. that were outraged by this. While it is true that many of our founding fathers were very devout Christians and believed their work of establishing a nation was the work of God and desired that their work reflect the strong Christian values, as believers, our primary loyalty is to the Kingdom of God, not the nation we live in. We are citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven and aliens in this world according to the scripture. Our allegience is to Christ. With this in mind, there is only “one nation under God”. That “nation” is the people of God; a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of God’s own possession…:(1 Peter1:9) This is a nation that has no physical boundary and include people from all over the world. This song is an attempt to remind us of this important truth and stir the concience of believers everywhere, reminding them that their loyalty is to Jesus Christ first and foremost.
